sep. 25 2024
In its ongoing commitment to ensuring the highest standards of product quality and safety in Nigeria, the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON), in partnership with Bureau Veritas Nigeria, recently conducted the annual audit of the Bureau Veritas Rotterdam Facility organized by the Bureau Veritas team of Verification of Conformity (VOC) Liaison Manager Nigeria Mr. Isioma Alabi and the GSIT Director Rotterdam Mrs. Astrid De Ruijter. This audit is a key component of Bureau Veritas' contractual obligations to SON under the Standards Organization of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Program (SONCAP).
The SONCAP program is designed to regulate the shipment of products into Nigeria, ensuring that all goods entering the country meet established standards and are free of substandard or counterfeit materials. As a trusted partner of SON, Bureau Veritas plays a critical role in managing this program, helping to curb the inflow of fake and unsafe products into the Nigerian market.
As part of the audit, the SON delegates led by the Mr. Ugbaja Joseph (Director GSD) with his team Mr. Samuel Ayuba (Director Head of Operations), Mr. Adewumi Richard (Director Lab), Mr. Adedeji Olorunfemi (SA to Director General) and Dr. Ifegwu John ( SA to Director General) visited the Rotterdam facility, one of Bureau Veritas' key operational hubs, to assess its capabilities in managing the SONCAP program.
The visit kicked off with a BV presentation by Mr. Koen Dekker (GSIT Business Developer) and Mr. Sinan Gokmen (GSIT Senior Business Developer) ,followed by a thorough walkthrough of Bureau Veritas’s facility’s laboratories, where the SON team experienced firsthand the rigorous testing processes that regulated products undergo before being certified for export to Nigeria. The team also observed the physical inspection process handled by Monique Schipper (GSIT Inspector) for one of BV’s key clients for vehicle parts shipments to Nigeria and other parts of Africa, providing assurance that Bureau Veritas is fully equipped to handle the task of monitoring compliance to Nigerian standards.
This annual audit underscores Bureau Veritas Nigeria's commitment to upholding the highest quality control standards and reinforces the collaboration with SON to protect Nigerian consumers from the dangers of substandard and counterfeit products. By continuously reviewing and upgrading their processes, Bureau Veritas ensures that only safe, high-quality products make their way into Nigeria, contributing to a safer and more secure marketplace.
The successful audit of the Rotterdam Facility highlights the strength of the partnership between SON and Bureau Veritas in their shared mission to protect Nigerian consumers and promote fair trade through the SONCAP program.
