Bureau Veritas at the Uganda Oil & Gas Convention: Partnering for Quality, Compliance, Sustainability
mai. 7 2026
Bureau Veritas proudly participated in the 11th Uganda Oil & Gas Convention (OGC) 2026, held under the theme “First Oil: Fulfilling the Promise, Forging the Future.”
As Uganda transitions into the operational phase of its oil and gas journey, the convention provided a vital platform to discuss how the industry can deliver safe, efficient, and sustainable production.
Edwin Kabuleeta, Country Chair for Bureau Veritas in Uganda, Participated in a Panel discussion about Quality as the Foundation of Long-Term Success
During the panel, Edwin, emphasized that in oil and gas, construction is not just about delivery, it is about building assets for a 25-year lifecycle.
He highlighted how rigorous quality control during construction directly impacts long-term viability:
- Asset integrity from day one through inspections such as Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and adherence to global standards
- Cost avoidance, noting that fixing defects during operations can cost 10 to 50 times more than addressing them early
He further reinforced that compliance should enable progress, not delay it. By aligning with standards like ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, and providing independent assurance, Bureau Veritas helps operators and regulators stay aligned—keeping projects on track.

Looking ahead to First Oil, Edwin highlighted emerging risks such as:
Asset fatigue and the need for predictive maintenance and risk-based inspections
The importance of accurate measurement systems to ensure transparency in revenue
Growing ESG expectations, including emissions monitoring and decarbonization
His key message: “Risk management is about integrating quality, safety, and environmental standards into one culture.”
Boniface Githae, Sustainability Lead for East & Southern Africa, delivered a keynote on “Achieving Net Zero,” highlighting the critical role of sustainability in shaping Uganda’s oil and gas future.
He highlighted how the industry must move beyond production targets to:
- Measure and reduce carbon emissions, including methane
- Strengthen ESG frameworks and reporting
- Adopt practical pathways toward decarbonization and climate resilience
Boniface also emphasized that integrating ESG into operations is essential—not only for compliance, but for long-term competitiveness and stakeholder trust.
